Menus

Build custom menus in Web > Menus. Generally, you will be building two types of menu:

  • Top-Level Menu: These are intended to be used directly in 'slots' around your site

  • Sub-Menu: These are intended to be used within other menus

In this way, you can reuse parts of different menus in other menus or in different slots around your site.

A menu a list of menu items in a particular order. Use the list controls to create new menu items, reorder them, or delete them.

There are several types of menu items available - here is a breakdown:

Section Header

The simplest option: just a static piece of text that doesn't link to anything. Enter the 'anchor text' which should display.

A clickable link to a page that is external to your site. Enter the 'anchor text' and the full URL for the link (i.e., including the 'https' prefix). Don't use this item type for internal links (within your site) - instead use the 'internal link' option.

A link to a destination within your site. Instead of having to manually enter the URL, you choose the destination from a dropdown list.

First choose the 'type' of resource you want to point at from the following:

  • Page

  • Post

  • Form

  • FAQ Page

  • Post Category

  • Product Category

  • Item (Product)

Once you've chosen the type, the selector will populate with all the available choices (use filters and search to narrow down).

You can optionally override the 'anchor text' for the destination - if you choose not to, the default (e.g. page title, product name) will be used in the menu.

System Page

These are built-in pages that are automatically created by Pakk. Use this option to create a link to one of these pages:

  • Delivery Info

  • Loyalty Info

  • Help Centre

  • Contact Us

  • Sale Items

  • New Items

  • Content Home

  • Reviews

  • Terms and Conditions

  • Privacy Policy

  • Cookie Settings

  • Feed

Expandable Category

The most complex of the options. This allows you to easily add a whole product category hierarchy to your menu without having to manually build it yourself using submenus. Choose the highest level at which you want that part of the menu to start and the system will automatically create the rest of the hierarchical menu structure for you, respecting your categories and their parent-child relationships.

Using Submenus

You can combine 'submenus' with any of the above menu item options. If you add a submenu to any menu item, it will add in the chosen submenu underneath the main menu item you have chosen.

A note on 'circular dependencies': The system will not allow you to select the current menu as a submenu of any of its menu items. This could be referred to as a 'direct circular dependency'. Likewise, the system will not allow you to set up a menu hierarchy where at any point Menu A includes Menu B which in turn includes Menu A (or with any number of intermediate menus in between).

Images

If this menu is rendered as a 'graphical menu' the image selected here is the image displayed. If this is a category menu item (either an internal link or an expandable category item) and no image is chosen here the category 'menuImage', if any, will be used. If you select an image here this will override any category menu-image selected.
