Limitations of Sales
Sales are much more limited in functionality than full Orders. This page explains the differences.
In general, Sales have the following limitations as compared to Orders. Remember that these limitations are designed to make Sales simpler and faster to enter for in-person sales.
Commitment: there is no concept of commitment on Sales. Once lines are added to the Sale and the Sale is saved, stock of those items are immediately impacted (i.e., reduced). It is not possible to have uncommited lines on a Sale.
Shipping: you cannot set a shipping address or charge for shipping on a Sale.
Dispatch: likewise there is no concept of a 'dispatch' on a Sale - items are considered to have been removed from stock and taken away by the customer immediately. For this reason, you cannot enter a shipping address.
Payment: there are no 'Payments' on a Sale - the system considers the full amont to have been paid by the customer and routed to the relevant account of the selected payment method.
Billing: Sales, unlike Orders, cannot be in an 'unbilled' state (meaning they are neither cash-saled or invoiced). By default, a Sale is a cash-sale/receipt. You can 'upgrade' a Sale to be invoiced if the customer specifically requests an invoice.
