Activate Your Loyalty Program on Site(s)
Once you’ve set up your Loyalty Program, all you need to do is select it on one or more sites by editing the Website (Setup > Websites) and selecting the Loyalty Program in General Settings > Loyalty Program. Once a Loyalty Program is selected on a site, the following features become active:
An automatically generated page (linked to from the footer) where the conditions of the Loyalty Program are explained in clear language to the user.
Messaging on product pages showing how many points can be earned by purchasing that product.
Message on product pages stating if the product is excluded from loyalty point redemption.
A new tab in the customer account area (for logged-in customers) where they can consult their loyalty point balance.
On previously placed orders, loyalty points earned/spent as well as loyalty discounts are shown.
In the cart, customers can choose to apply or save their loyalty points.
In the cart and checkout, the loyalty discount earned from applying points is shown.
In the cart, the number of loyalty points that could be earned from placing this order is shown.
In the cart, if the minimum order for using loyalty points hasn't been met, a message communicating this to the customer is displayed.
On the ‘Thank You’ page, after an order is placed, the number of loyalty points earned is shown.
Tips for Website Settings and Configuration
Choose a catchy name for your Loyalty Program that works with your particular brand.
You might like to link to the autogenerated information page from other places (e.g., the auxiliary bar in the header).
Enter some introductory information to appear at the top of the autogenerated information page if there is something specific you’d like to communicate about your loyalty program.
Since all orders are subject to customers agreeing to Terms and Conditions, you should update your Terms with specific points regarding your Loyalty Program. You can use the information on the autogenerated page as a guide to adding to your Terms.
Program-Per-Site Versus Cross-Site Loyalty Programs
Note that you are free to set up as many Loyalty Programs as you need. Each can use different points accumulation and redemption values. Note, though, that a website can only have one active Loyalty Program at once, but a Loyalty Program can be active on many sites at once.
Consider the following distinct configurations:
A) Program-Per-Site: You set up one Loyalty Program for each of your sites. Points are accumulated for each site separately and cannot be cross-spent. B) Cross-Site Program: You activate the same Loyalty Program on different sites. Customers will be able to accumulate and spend points from the same 'pot' on any of those sites - sort of like how the Nectar scheme in the UK would allow you to accumulate and spend points at Sainsbury's and various other outlets.
Cross-Site Programs essentially turn your sites into a network of sites related by a common Loyalty Program, which can be a very powerful tool. However, you need to consider whether a common points-accumulation ratio and point-value are appropriate for your stores. For example, if one of your stores has significantly worse margins than the others, you might struggle to offer the same point-value discount on that store.
