Website Development
Learn about the built-in features Pakk has to aid in the website development process
Pakk includes a number of features to aid in the development of your online store or website:
Automatic Development Domain: Each website is assigned a permanent development domain.
Instant Changes: When viewed on this development domain, the site is not cached, so any changes you make will be visible immediately.
Live Preview in Admin Panel: Pakk includes a preview option (eye icon) that lets you view your development site directly in the admin panel. You can switch between desktop and phone views to see how your changes look across devices.
Dev Mode Banner: While making changes, you can enable a Development Mode Banner that informs your customers the site is undergoing updates. This banner will override any custom banners you have set up.
Easy Transition: When you’re ready to go live, add your real-world domain in the Domains and SEO section, and set up any redirects.
Automatic Development Domain
Every Website you create in your Pakk account will automatically be assigned an address with the format {id}.pakk.cloud
. You can always view, copy and paste this URL from the Website record in the admin panel.
You should not give out this URL publicly - its it intended for development purposes only and not for general public use.
When you view your site on this 'development domain', all production-level caching and optimisation tricks are bypassed, allowing you to see updates immediately.
Admin Panel Live Preview
Speed up development by viewing changes immediately in the 'preview pane' in the admin panel.
Use the 'eye' icon in the top right to preview your site
Switch between mobile and desktop views quickly by using the respective icons
Close the 'preview pane' with the eye icon
Note that the preview pane uses your development domain to preview your site, bypassing caches and giving you an immediate view on your changes. Also note that you have to save any edits to your site before an update takes effect.
Dev Mode
Enable 'dev move' by checking the box. Once you're in dev mode, visitors to your site will see a warning banner at the top of the page that alerts them to the fact that the site is currently undergoing development. Note that this banner will override a custom banner that you might have created.
